Bratton 4 Westbury United A 0

THE Chantry Digital Limited of Trowbridge-sponsored Knockout Cup paired Bratton and Westbury United A in a local derby - and it was the home side who triumphed.

Bratton scored the only goal of the first half through Darren Clements and continued to apply pressure in the second, rewarded with further goals coming from Ian Young and a double strike from Neil Gordon.

Broughton FC 3 Frome Town Sports 1

BROUGHTON FC progressed through to the next round at the expense of Frome Town Sports.

The first half was an even affair with both sides scoring a goal apiece, Dan Barnett for Broughton and James Nield-Smith for Frome.

The second half saw Broughton gradually get the better of the Frome defence and they were rewarded with a further two goals from Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock and a second from Barnett.

Chippenham Old Boys 2 Semington Magpies 4

DIVISION Three new boys Chippenham Old Boys were drawn against First Division outfit Semington Magpies and, for the first 45 minutes, played on a level footing.

Semington scored first through Chris Rogers but the home side equalised with a goal from Dan Gernonn.

The second half started brightly for Chippenham as they took the lead through a Rob Jefferies shot, but their joy was shortlived as Semington levelled minutes later when Kelvin Lockwood tapped in from close range.

Semington stepped up a gear and started to force the play and they were rewarded with two quick goals from Nathan Keegan and Alan Clarke, which Chippenham never recovered from.

Freshford United 2 Seend United 7

SEEND United continued their winning form as they travelled to Freshford United and promptly ran out comfortable winners.

A Mark Birleson strike brought Freshford’s only goal of the first period, but Seend scored three of their own through an own goal, Gary Higdon and Ollie Gee.

The second half mirrored the first as Birleson scored again for Freshford before Seend scored another four from Tom Stanton, Higdon and two from Craig Townsend.

Lavington 5 Trowbridge Wanderers 2

LAVINGTON eased into the next round thanks to a comfortable win at home to Trowbridge Wanderers, the only goal of the first half coming from Wanderers' Chris Brady.

The second half saw Lavington totally dominate, scoring five goals with two apiece for Jamie Bayes and Lee Corbin and one from Ben House.

A shell-shocked Wanderers managed to score one more through Adam Mercer but by then the damage had already been done.

Seend United Reserves 3 FC Northbridge 4

FC NORTHBRIDGE scraped through to the next round by the odd goal in seven against Seend United Reserves.

Host side Seend took an early lead through Dan Moore, but a Nick James shot levelled for Northbridge.

Steve Jackson then put the visitors in front, only to see Dan Humphries level for Seend just before the interval.

The second half was played much the same as the first with both teams going in search of goals and it was Northbridge who struck when John Taylor scored to make it 3-2.

Seend however would not roll over and they hit back with a goal of their own from Moore again to set up a tense final few minutes.

With time running out Northbridge hit the winner as Taylor scored a second to break the hearts of the Seend players.

Calne Eagles 4 North Bradley 1

CALNE Eagles progressed into the quarter finals with an impressive win over fellow Division Two side North Bradley.

Calne started the match at an extremely high tempo and as a result totally dominated the first 45 minutes.

They got the reward that their play deserved after only 11 minutes when a superb cross from new signing Sam Rogers set up Stu Windsor, who squeezed the ball past Mark Binns in North Bradley’s goal at the second attempt.

The pace and the energy of Windsor and his strike partner Shaun Jefferies continued to stretch North Bradley’s defence.

Midway through the half, Windsor added his second of the game, and his 10th of the season, when he went clean through on goal and coolly rounded Binns before tapping into the empty net.

Calne all but wrapped up the game before half-time, when Shaun Jefferies was brought down inside the box and Windsor converted the penalty to complete his hat-trick.

Calne started the second-half in much the same fashion, with Mark Binns making numerous good saves from both Windsor and Jefferies to keep the score at 3-0.

However, on the hour mark Jefferies did finally get on the scoresheet, his initial shot was once again well saved by Binns’ but the ball span up favourably for the striker to head home from close range.

In the last 30 minutes, North Bradley started to play some good football and had Calne fully stretched on numerous occasions, with striker Craig Brown at the centre of most of their good attacking play.

With 17 minutes remaining, they got their reward when a free-kick from Neil Maidment was not cleared by Calne and the ball broke kindly to Rob Clark, who made no mistake from 10 yards out.

In the closing stages, Eagles’ sub Alphie Archer missed two good chances to extend Calne’s lead, but by this point Calne’s place in the next round was already safe.

DIVISION ONE

Bromham 2 Blue Circle 4

BLUE Circle moved into third place in the table after recording a win at bottom club Bromham.

James Sandiford put Bromham in front but the lead was wiped out when Dean Osment equalised just before the break for Circle.

Steeple Ashton 2 The Deverills 4

THIS mid-table clash saw visitors The Deverills walk away with all three points after securing a 4-2 win.

The Deverills started much the better of the two sides and found themselves a goal to the good through Aaron Stevens.

However, Ashton hit back almost immediately with a strike from Lee Hayward.

With both teams pressing, another goal was inevitable and it fell to Hayward again as he made it 2-1 in favour of the home side.

Not to be outdone though The Deverills equalised just before the interval through Sean Holton.

The second period was played much as the first with both teams hungry for goals but it was The Deverills who made the most of their efforts and they scored a further two goals from Nick Bunyard and Chikgah Douglas.

DIVISION THREE

Bradford United Reserves 1 Fever FC 0

Bradford just about deserved their second win of the season, having had the better of the first half and taking the lead when the Fever keeper failed to hold Kegan Smart's shot on 20 minutes.

The second half was a more even affair, but Bradford's goalkeeper was rarely troubled, and they deservedly ran out winners.
