BOXING champ Shawn Grant has been told to expect a jail term after admitting being involved in the hard drugs trade.

The 29-year-old cruiserweight pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

Grant, who has served a lengthy jail term for drug dealing in the past, was involved with others between the start of February and March 20 last year.

He also admitted possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply on Monday, May 2, 2012.

However, he will not be sentenced until after the trial of another defendant accused of being involved in the conspiracy.

Judge Peter Blair QC released him on bail, but said he must live at his home on Beatrice Street, Gorse Hill, and observe a curfew from 10pm to 7am.

He told him: “The fact that you are getting conditional bail now does not mean that you won’t get a prison sentence at the end of this. You must be clear about that.”

He is one of 10 men and one woman who have admitted their involvement in a conspiracy to supply cocaine.

Richard McKenzie, 31, of Stonefield Close, appeared in the dock alongside him to also admit the charge on what would have been the first day of their trial.

The nine others who have pleaded guilty are: Marvin Holder, 40, of Edgar Close; James Asbridge, 42, of Mazurek Way;Alan Beattie, 45, of Bridge Street;Jason Handley, 36, of Crawford Close; Martin Johnson, 33, of Victoria Road; Damien Rue, 24, of Tamworth Drive; Kalesha Dawkins, 25, of Loxley Walk;and Ellis Maven-Hazleton, 20, and Teon Richards, 19, both of Reading, Berkshire.

Grant was jailed for six years in 2007 after he and another man were operating a commercial enterprise storing, cutting and selling hard drugs.

The pair recruited a teenager to help them ply their trade and continued selling drugs after they had been arrested and charged.

Police launched a covert surveillance operation and filmed them supplying a known addict in Queens Park.

Grant and his accomplice, who also got six years, also hid drugs in bushes close to car parks across town.

In July this year, Grant successfully defended his Neilson Promotions’ cruiserweight belt at the Oasis, with a second round win over Danny Brennan.
