Whiteman finds his form away from the track
Tony Whiteman, of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, who ran well on the track during the summer, took to the road and produced a good effort in the South of England Road Relays Championships at Aldershot on Sunday.
In the men's senior contest, Whiteman and Mohamed Farrah (Windsor, Slough, Eton and (Hounslow) ran the joint second fastest 6km legs, in 17mins 49secs. Only C Thompson (Aldershot , Farnham and District) was marginally faster with 17mins 29secs.
Shaftesbury Barnet's women's veterans team did well to finish runners-up, 49 seconds behind Reading in the 4x3,850m contest. The team was: Gil Morgan (16mins 55secs), Kate Armstrong (14mins 44secs), Lis Dodwell (15mins 29secs) and Caroline Horne (14mins 41secs).
The U17 As and the U15 As both did well to finish fourth.
In the U17 run over 3,000m, the Shaftesbury athletes were: Sian Bentley (11mins 2secs), Justine Nash (11mins 48secs) and Emma Hunt (11min 38secs).
The U15 race was also run over 3,000m, and the Shaftesbury trio were: Hannah Shelley (12mins 27secs), Katie Alcock (11mins 20secs) and Sarah Waldron (11mins 1secs).
Jessica Nugent was the fastest among Shaftesbury's seniors, who were ninth.
She clocked 14mins 1sec for the 3,850m leg, Roz Lewis returned 14mins 12secs, Sally Anne Cox 14mins 28secs, and Emma Fisher 14mins 40secs.
Other SBH results: Senior B team (Incomplete): Emma Murray (13mins 37secs), Sarah Fensome (14mins 22secs). U17 B team (Incomplete): Isabella Ramsay (12mins 5secs).
U15 C: 19th: Toni Fox (12mins 36secs), Emma Hughes (2mins 44ssecs), Amanda Bailey (11mins 38secs). U15 B: 34th: Megan Bovingdon (12mins 59secs), Sinead Nash (13mins 20secs), Zoe Sinnott (13mins 33secs).
U13 (3x2,000): A team 32nd: Holly Hare 9mins 58secs, Emily Van Blankenstein (10mins 32secs), Nerys Bentley (10mins 9secs). B team (incomplete): Hannah Charman (10mins 16secs).
