I was intending to try one of the giant burgers I had heard about, but a quick scan of the menu changed my mind.

I’ve never understood why breakfast has to be eaten in the morning, or why some places stop serving it at 11am, so the All Day Breakfast, at £7.95, was the one for me. Good to see that they do a veggie option, too, with a bean burger and veggie sausage instead of the Cumberland variety.

I wasn’t sorry, either, though I did think the Mississippi Chilli Dog (£6.95) my friend enjoyed would be my treat on my next visit.

The breakfast (sausage, bacon, two eggs, a giant hash brown, mushroom, baked beans and tomato, with a rather sad little lettuce leaf garnish and two rounds of toast and butter) went down a treat.

The bacon was maple cured and really crispy, while the sausage was packed with flavour, and the plate was mercifully free of grease as it’s all griddle cooked.

The coffee here comes in ‘bottomless’ cups, good value at £1.95, and it was a good filter brew, piping hot. The music, 50s/60s classic Americana, is good too.

And thanks to a 20 per cent off voucher I’d saved from a recent cinema visit, excellent value.
