WITH England featuring in a rare lunchtime kick off in their friendly match against Ireland last Sunday (Jun7), my partner and I decided to find a pub to enjoy the game with a bite of lunch.

After a quick check online to see which pubs in Chippenham would be showing the game, we decided to try The Pheasant carvery and pub on Bath Road.

On arrival, we were warmly greeted and directed through the busy dining area to the bar where three screens would be showing the game live.

Whilst the majority of diners tucked into the carvery, which is available every day but is £2 more expensive on a Sunday, we decided to go for a lighter bite.

We both chose the £4.95 club ciabatta adding a portion of chips for an extra £1.50 each.

After ordering at the bar and a short wait, considering the lack of empty tables, our food arrived on wooden boards and looked really good.

The side salad had a nice dressing and although the portion of chips didn’t appear plentiful at first, they were thick cut and there were enough.

The ciabatta was extremely well filled with tasty ham and chicken meaning we were both full by the time we’d cleared our plates. Neither of us could manage a dessert despite deciding to stay to the end of England’s extremely dull 0-0 draw.

With a soft drink each, the bill came to a very reasonable £17.
