AROUND 40 drummers are set to raise the roof at a charity concert with a difference on Sunday.

It’s the Annual Student Concert of the Rodbourne-based Andy Wraight Teaching Studios and Ultimate Tuition at Riff’s Bar.

As well as giving young people the chance to show off their skills, it is hoped the event will raise a drum-full of cash for Prospect Hospice.

The students will take their turn on stage during a six-hour marathon that also includes guitarists, but will be dominated by the drummers, including one as young as four years old.

Organisers Andy Wraight and DJ Harman are also running a charity raffle, with more than £1,000 worth of prizes, including a £300 Vintage guitar, generously donated by the manufacturer.

Andy said: “This is the students’ big chance to show what they have been learning all year, and for some it’s the first time they have ever performed in front of a live audience.

“In all, about 80 musicians will be performing on Sunday, so it’s a big event, but it’s still only the tip of the iceberg of music in Swindon. “We teach more than 200 local children, and the town is blessed with a wealth of talented and enthusiastic young musicians.

“Some of Sunday’s performers are also involved in Swindon Music Service’s Rock School and Rock Pod programme at The Platform, and we think they all represent the positive face of youth in the town.

“Young people are much different to the way they are often portrayed or perceived, and events like this help to prove what they are capable of if given the right support and encouragement.”

Tickets for the concert, which begins at 11.30am, are £2 for adults and £1 for children.
