Long tailbacks are building up each side of the Clatford junction on the A4 in Marlborough because of a jackknifed lorry between the B4003 (West Kennett) and High Street (Marlborough).

It is understood the fuel tank on the lorry has ruptured and there is a large diesel spill on the road. It is thought the road is likely to remain closed for a considerable time.

Police are turning back drivers, however, many are opting to get to their destination via the back, ungritted village roads through Lockeridge and Manton. Many have come to grief and log-jams are reported.

A customer at the Fyfield garage on the A4 said the tailbacks were building by the second and advised drivers not to attempt the journey. Estimates of the time the lorry will be cleared vary between 2 and 3pm today.
