Man trapped in car after M4/A419 roundabout crash

This Is Wiltshire: The scene of the accident on the junction of the A419 and J15 of the M4 The scene of the accident on the junction of the A419 and J15 of the M4

TWO lanes of the roundabout on the junction of the A419 and junction 15 of the M4 are currently closed following a three-vehicle collision at around 4.20pm.

Severe disruption is expected as police, fire and ambulance services are in attendance. One man has been medically trapped in his vehicle and is being removed safely by fire crews.

Insp Lindsey Winter, of Wiltshire Police, said: “This incident is expected to cause serious traffic related issues. We have still got units on the road travelling to the scene, with the fire service also in attendance.

“The location is going to cause huge difficulties with traffic. Two lanes are currently closed on the roundabout, and there is a possibility that all lanes will require closing.

“Three units are on site already with another on its way. There are some injuries involved.”

A spokesman for Wiltshire Fire and rescue said: “We were not called to the incident until 4.30pm after the ambulance service called for our help. There are three vehicles involved, including two cars and one van.

“One man is medically trapped in his vehicle and efforts are being made to release him using hydraulic cutting equipment.”

Always a hot spot for moronic drivers. Plenty of cutting up and poor lane positioning to try to get in front of other traffic. Why they get off scot free I do not know. Ban them !

Maybe now is not the time for that comment, when someone is clearly trapped and injured in a car. May not have been his fault!

The term 'medically trapped', comes up quite a lot. What dose this mean exactly?.

Can't be moved due to position in car which may injure them more if they are moved (for instance: suspected broken neck or spinal injury). The car has to be cut open for access to the victim.

Whilst hoping that the people involved were ok in the end, the first comment is right, I use that route regularly and people race around it changing lanes at the last minute and speeding off to cut people up and get back in the right lane as soon as the lights change.
Too many idiots on the road these days unfortunately!
