A CAR and lorry have been involved in a crash which has closed part of the A419 and caused standstill traffic.
A 50-year-old man had to be cut free from his blue BMW by fire crews and was taken by ambulance to Great Western Hospital with chest injuries.
It is not thought anyone else was hurt in the crash but two rapid response vehicles were also sent by South Western Ambulance Service at 2.40pm.
Police were first alerted just after 2.30pm and arrived shortly afterwards at the scene on the northbound carriageway near the recycling centre and inbetween Blunsdon and Calcutt, heading towards Cricklade.
A police spokesman said both lanes of the road are expected to be shut for two hours to clear the area of debris.
Meanwhile fire crews from Cricklade, Swindon and Stratton were called at 2.50pm and have now left the scene. They also dealt with a small leak from the lorry which is thought to contain alcohol.
There are reports of long tailbacks and police are diverting motorists as well as trying to turn drivers around.
Highways England are reporting the road will reopen between 6.30pm and 6.45pm
