WITH summer fast approaching, people looking to relax in the sun can now stop off at Queen’s Park after the café reopened for the season over the weekend.

A special celebratory event was held on Sunday and to tie in with Easter, there was also a selection of other activities going on that families could get involved with.

The day was organised by the Queen’s Park Community Council who hope that visitors to the park also pay a trip to the popular café.

Chairman of the council Stan Pajak said he was delighted with how many families came out to the event.

“We wanted to organise an event that would get people walking around the park and thought an Easter egg hunt would be a good idea and it gets the whole family involved,” he said.

“We’re always keen to get families together and so we hope that with the music and café being open, we managed to do that.”

As well as the egg hunt, where youngsters had to search for letters to make a word before receiving their chocolate gift, there was also a specialist tree talk - something which Stan hopes encourages people to find out about the nature in the park.

“What people don’t realise is that Queen’s Park has the second biggest collection of trees after Coate Water,” he explained.

“It is surprising when people say they don’t realise the park is even here because one of our biggest attractions was the Polish Day we held last year.

“We believe that because this space is a park, we should not charge for these things and we have a lot more events coming up throughout the year that people should come along to.

“In Swindon we are well endowed with nice places and we hope that people get out and explore them as Queen’s Park is just one of many local places in the community.”

The café will remain open until September time, on a Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 4pm.
