Emergency calls were being re-routed to other forces - as Wiltshire Police battled technical problems with their 999 and 101 lines.
The force tweeted on Tuesday afternoon: "We're currently experiencing problems with our 999 and 101 call system.
"Our 999 lines are being rerouted to neighbouring police forces. Our 101 system is also experiencing delays due to these issues.
"We're working closely with our telephone provider to fix the problem ASAP."
UPDATE: Wiltshire Police said the service was back to normal shortly after 7.30pm on Tuesday.
