COURT: Thief Nicholas Barnett, who failed to turn up for sessions with his offender manager, found himself sent to jail.

Barnett, 25, of Honeybone Walk, Covingham, had been on a community order imposed in November for theft and committing an offence while on a suspended sentence for an assault that caused actual bodily harm.

He admitted the allegation but Swindon magistrates told him his wilful and persistent failure to comply meant the six-week suspended sentence would be activated and another two weeks added, to run concurrently.

COURT: Assaulting a police officer cost Craig Harfield a £100 bill for compensation and another £50 on top in prosecution costs.

Harfield, 28, of Hook Street appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to the assault, which happened on July 24. He was instructed to pay up by August 22.

COURT: Magistrates jailed a man for 21 weeks after he was found with a vegetable knife in Marlowe Avenue.

Madge Elshafie, 26, of no fixed address admitted the charge and also pleaded guilty to assaulting a police community support officer the day after the incident in June.

Swindon magistrates said it was the second offence of a similar nature and the offence was aggravated by his previous record of offending.

Elshafie was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the PCSO.
