A man who led police on a 40-mile high-speed chase through Wiltshire has appeared in the dock.

Armed officers came across an MG Trophy LD24 WMA being driven by Malcolm Hall, 35, of Bronwydd, Birchgrove, Swansea on Tuesday, April 9, at roughly 10.30pm and decided to pull him over.

But Hall fled at speed and a pursuit was authorised from Junction 16 which continued all of the way to Junction 12 for Theale.

Hall was boxed in by a tactical stop involving officers from Thames Valley Police and then he tried to escape on foot before. Police said he was captured with the help of police dog Conan.

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Hall faced multiple charges.

This included driving a vehicle dangerously, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving without a license.

Hall pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, and driving without insurance or a licence and will now appear before Swindon Crown Court in May.

He has been released on unconditional bail until that date.
