Children in Swindon who are about to start primary school have just learned where places are available.

Swindon Borough Council’s school admissions team received 2,432 on-time applications for primary school places this year.

Parents who applied online will receive an email on Tuesday morning, while offer emails for those that applied after the deadline and letters for those who declined an offer email will be sent out later that day.

Parents could request a place in up to three schools - 98.6 per cent of these applicants have now been offered their first choice, while 99.8 per cent have been offered a place at one of the three preferences.

Annette Perrington, the local authority’s director of inclusion and achievement, said: “We have fantastic primary schools here in Swindon and I’m very pleased that 98.6 per cent of pupils will be able to attend their first-choice primary school in September.

"The admissions team work hard every year to process thousands of on time applications. Starting school is always an exciting and slightly daunting time for parents and children.

“It’s always reassuring for parents to have a confirmed place at their school of choice.

“Good luck to all children and their parents who are starting in Reception in 2024.”
