VANDALS have smashed more windows in Trowbridge town centre.

In the latest attack, someone smashed a window at the Clarks shoe shop in Fore Street once occupied by the historic George Hotel.

The damage is believed to have taken place overnight sometime between Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14.

Sam Spratt, the store’s assistant manager, said: “It was okay when we closed on Saturday afternoon.

“But we discovered the damage on Sunday morning. We had it boarded up on Monday.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We have received a report of a commercial premises in Fore Street, Trowbridge, having its window damaged on the morning of April 14.

“Our enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting reference 54240042274.”

A group of people also smashed a window at Connells estate agents in Fore Street overnight on Friday/Saturday, March 29 and 30.

Roisin Cheadle, sales manager at Connells, said the windows were not smashed by a vandal targeting their business.

“A group of four men were seen fighting and one man was pushed through the window,” she said.

“It happened in the early hours of Saturday morning at around 3am. From my understanding the police actually found the four people that did it.

“It wasn’t that they had smashed the window, it was that they put someone through the window, so it wasn’t an act of vandalism.

“It was an act of drunkenness. It was unfortunate circumstances really. They didn’t do it on purpose.

“They were just fighting and someone got put through the window, unfortunately.

“Locally, we are all close to the pubs and to where drunken people have a little bit too much and if they get angry that’s when things happen.

“We are within walking distance of all that and unfortunately we just got caught up in it.”

Both companies have since boarded up the windows to prevent people from gaining access to their premises.

The damage comes after a couple arguing smashed windows at St James’ Chambers in Union Street, Trowbridge, in the early hours of Sunday, March 17.

It also follows vandals attacking the offices of BLB Solicitors in Roundstone Street, Trowbridge, smashing windows on four separate occasions.

The law firm is now calling for more CCTV cameras to be installed in and around the town centre to help identify those who have caused over £5,000 worth of damage.
