A TALENTED performer is flying high after learning he will be starring in Madam Butterfly at the weekend.

Dino Fisher-Stephens, who joined Swindon Dance when he was old enough to walk, will be starring as the child of Madam Butterfly at the Wyvern Theatre on Sunday, March 3.

The 10-year-old, of Gorse Hill, will be performing alongside the Grand Opera of Belarus and said he cannot wait to take part.

“I’m really excited. I am used to performing in front of people because I am part of Swindon Dance. Being on stage is really fun. I like showing people what I can do,” he said.

“While I am on stage, they are going to read stories and sing to me and I have to sit quietly.”

Dino attends weekly acting classes with Swindon Young Actors.

“When I get older I would like to either become an actor, a dancer or a yacht sailor,” he said.

“I was really excited when I found out I would be taking part in Madam Butterfly. I am going to be performing on a bigger stage than usual. I usually perform at Swindon Dance.”

Puccini’s Madam Butterfly tells the tale of a trusting Japanese maiden who catches the attention and affections of an American officer.

To become his bride she must cross cultural boundaries and defy the will of her family.

Dino’s first rehearsal for the role will be on Sunday, the same day as the performance.

Richard Loftus, the marketing manager at the Wyvern Theatre, said: “It is so exciting to be offering young people in Swindon the opportunity to perform with world class opera companies such as the Grand Opera of Belarus.”

Dino’s mother Clare Fantini-Stephens, said: “It is a great opportunity for Dino because he loves performing in front of people.”

As well as Madam Butterfly on March 3 at 7.30pm, the Grand Opera of Belarus will be performing Puccini’s La Boheme on March 2. To book tickets visit www.wyverntheatre.org.uk or phone 01793 524481.
