FOOTBALL: Armstrong recovering after fall
3:13pm Thursday 5th December 2013 in Latest News
FROME goalkeeper Scott Armstrong is on the road to recovery after his horror injury forced the abandonment of the Robins’ Somerset Premier Cup tie on Tuesday.
Town were 2-1 up at Toolstation League First Division Keynsham Town when the match was called off after 73 minutes following Armstrong’s fall.
Armstrong came for a catch but landed awkwardly onto Keynsham’s 3G playing surface.
After lengthy treatment an ambulance was called but, with Armstrong still laying on the pitch, referee Savvas Yiani was forced to call an early halt.
Armstrong left hospital on Wednesday after suffering several broken ribs and internal bleeding and his enforced absence leaves boss Brian O’Donnell searching for cover for regular number one Darren Chitty.
Keynsham took an early second-half lead, but Matt Clark soon equalised and Ben Wood gave Frome the lead before Armstrong’s injury.
The match will be replayed on Tuesday, meaning the Calor League Southern Premier Division game against Poole Town will be rearranged for the new year.
