RAYCHEM took another step forward in their quest for an instant return to Regional League 1 with a 47-42 victory over a spirited Weston side.

The New College based side were missing key defender Tracy Watt, but newcomer Alex Rigby came in and did an outstanding job in a game her side were always in control of.

Raychem stormed into a 9-2 lead within a matter of minutes as goal-attack Kelly Morgan dominated the Weston defence to score all nine goals from distance, however the visitors soon pulled themselves together and played the netball the hosts had expected to reduce the deficit to 16-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Some steady play from Raychem ensured a 10-goal lead at half-time, although the advantage could maybe have been more, but changes at the break from coach Mo Squires saw the hosts struggle to settle and the deficit reduced to only six.

However, when the team was switched back for the final quarter, normal service was resumed as Raychem secured the win and five vital points.

Meanwhile, Raychem C played Raychem D in a closely contested match in Division 3 with the C coming out on top by two goals. Raychem A team beat Lawn A 52-31, Raychem B beat Nationwide C, Raychem E beat Fairford D 45-16 and Raychem F beat Jets B 37-28 to secure an impressive weekend for the club.

Elsewhere, Croft started quickly in their game against Abbey Meads D to lead by four at the end of the first quarter and held onto their lead through the next two sessions.

Going into the final quarter, Abbey found their range as they stormed back to force a 35-35 draw, with Rachel Gerring taking the player of the match award.

The Abbey Meads regional squad enjoyed a successful trip to Penryn as they won 37-34.
