This Is Wiltshire: WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: Gary just loving the 3G WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: Gary just loving the 3G

FC CHIPPENHAM Youth manager Gary Williamson says his side may continue to beat the wet weather by playing on the artificial pitch at Stanley Park.

Chippenham’s clash with Devizes Town Reserves was the only Premier Division game to take place last weekend after the hosts opted to switch the fixture to the synthetic surface.

And Williamson’s side were rewarded as they came from 3-1 down to claim an exciting 5-3 victory.

“When I spoke to Stanley Park in the week, they said they didn’t expect any games to take place on the grass pitches because of the rainfall that was due,” said Williamson.

“I spoke to the manager of Devizes (Scott Clark) and he was happy for us to get the game played on the 3G.

“I then had to speak to the league and they got in contact with the Wiltshire FA, who said that we were fine.

“It’s a really good facility at Stanley Park. The pitch is quite quick but it’s not all that different from when we play on grass. I don’t think that the grass pitch we usually play on will be playable for a few weeks.

“We’re supposed to be at home to Corsham (Town Reserves) this weekend so I’ll in touch with their manager about playing on it again.”

Devizes raced into a two-goal lead before Phil Baker crossed for Dan Williamson to reduce the deficit.

The visitors restored their two-goal lead to pile, but Dan Williamson was felled in the box on the stroke of half-time and fired home from the penalty spot himself.

In the second period, Garry Lock struck to restore parity at 3-3 before Ali Ellis’ cross took a wicked deflection off a defender to put the hosts in front.

Williamson’s men killed off any hope of a comeback as Tom Jones headed home.

Division One Melksham Town Reserves or Malmesbury Victoria will face Intel in the final of the Junior KO Cup after the Swindon side beat Sarum Youth Seniors 2-0 last weekend.
