This Is Wiltshire: The old photo found in the library The old photo found in the library

LIBRARIANS in the Central Library are trying to reunite a precious photograph with its owner after it was found among the bookshelves.

The photograph, which is about the size of a passport photograph, is black and white and features a young woman with short curly hair wearing a sleeveless blouse, and a boy with a classic combed-down hairstyle.

It was found at around lunchtime on Tuesday on the ground floor of the Central Library in the town centre.

Kelly Saunders, a library assistant at the central library, said she hoped they would be able to reunite the photograph with its owner.

She said: “It’s a small photograph so it may have fallen out of somebody’s purse. It’s black and white and it looks like it might be from the 1940s or the 1950s. It’s definitely old.

“It looks like it could be a woman and her son.”

Usually, the team only keep lost property for about a month, but Kelly has promised to hang on to it for as long as possible for a claimant to come forward.

She said: “We’ve been using social media to get the message out there but, depending on the age of the person, they might not know about it.

“It’s obviously a very special photograph for someone because it must have been with them for such a long time.”

The library regularly collects lost property, including photographs, but they are usually far more recent pictures.

Anyone who thinks the photo belongs to them, or knows the owner, should call the library on 01793 463238 to reclaim it.
