SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Foster in for the long haul
FROME Town manager Adrian Foster wants to prove that his successful half-season at the Robins’ helm wasn’t a fluke, after signing a two-year contract to continue in his post at Badgers Hill.
The 43-year-old, who took over as Robins boss in December last year and guided his side from the depths of a relegation dogfight to a comfortable mid-table finish, was delighted to put pen to paper last weekend.
The former Torquay United and Rushden & Diamonds striker is certain that Frome is the perfect place to nurture his managerial ambitions.
Now he is looking forward on attempting to continue his fine spell with the Southern League outfit.
“The club spoke to me a few times about signing a contract and I said that I’d talk about it at the end of the season – we then got it sorted last weekend,” said Foster.
“It’s my first contract as a manager. I’ve said before that I want to go as far as I can and it means that Frome are happy with what I’m doing.
“If I can carry on doing well here, then people will take notice of that and it’ll be a good thing for the club.
“I want to prove that last year wasn’t a flash in the pan – I believe it was down to hard work. Next season is going to be tough because a lot of teams are going to expect a hard game against us but hopefully we can add three or four new signings to the squad.”
Meanwhile, Foster revealed that he has secured a showpiece pre-season friendly against Yeovil Town at Badgers Hill, with the League One Glovers set to bring their first team to take on the Robins.
Yeovil, who pulled out of a Somerset Premier Cup clash with Frome in February, are set to visit on Wednesday July 9 (kick-off 7.45pm).
Foster added: “It’s a fantastic friendly for us – I spoke to Gary (Johnson, Yeovil manager) and he assured me that they’d be bringing the same team as if they were playing Liverpool or Manchester United.”
