MORE information has been revealed about the presence of the air ambulance helicopter which was in Swindon for much of Sunday afternoon.

The critical care team responded to two separate medical emergencies within the space of an hour.

At 3.26pm, paramedics were dispatched to a property in Rutland Road, Park North, following reports that a child had been injured.

An ambulance was sent and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance team also responded by air.

The helicopter landed on the playing fields immediately behind New College causing a great deal of interest among the dozens of children playing nearby.

When they arrived at the house, the medics found a three-month-old baby with a head injury.

The Adver understands that the baby’s mother was holding him in her arms when she was pushed by another of her children.

The baby then fell down the stairs.

He was taken to Great Western Hospital by land ambulance and is understood to be recovering well.

A number of police officers were also deployed to the scene of the incident.

A spokesman for the force confirmed that while no arrests had been made, officers were carrying out inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No sooner had the helicopter taken off from Park North, the crew were deployed to a second incident across town in West Swindon.

The aircraft landed on the Recreation Ground in Gainsborough Way and the critical care medics went to a house in nearby Leslie Close.

Paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service were already at the scene treating a patient who was believed to be suffering a cardiac arrest.

Despite the best efforts of the medical crews on site, the Adver understands that one person, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A private ambulance attended the property later in the evening.
