LAWRENCE Vigouroux says he feels privileged to be a part of the Swindon Town team after admitting he thought his Wiltshire career had come to an end last season.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper was sent out on loan to League of Ireland outfit Waterford last season after enduring a tough time at the Energy Check County Ground.

A tempestuous relationship with former manager David Flitcroft and several disciplinary flashpoints led to him being exiled from the first team picture after Christmas.

His Ireland move also meant he was unable to be recalled after Flitcroft departed to take over at Mansfield Town, despite Town's fans constantly urging the club to bring him back.

However, with two league starts under his belt this season, Vigouroux says he’s over the moon to be involved again.

“I’m delighted to be back. A lot of people know how much I love the club, I’m back here and I’m able to put the shirt on again (and) at one point I didn’t think I’d be able to do that again,” he said.

“I’m privileged. I’m enjoying every minute, especially when we are winning. I’m just happy and if we win (against Forest green Rovers in the Carabao Cup), I’ll be even happier.”

Manager Phil Brown has already identified Vigouroux as a key cog within his Town side and alluded to the fact he is keen to tie the 24-year-old down to a new deal.

The expiration of Vigouroux's current deal means he could leave the County Ground at the end of the season, bringing a close to a colourful three-year spell in Wiltshire.

But the current Town number one believes he has everything he needs at his disposal after the club brought in veteran gloveman Luke McCormick and first team goalkeeping coach Steve Mildenhall as he looks to take the ‘next step’ in his career.

Many Town supporters look upon Vigouroux with great fondness and while appreciating their affections, he says he is just happy playing football.

“I have to sit down with my family and my agent to see what they say (about his future). Everyone knows I love the club and I was gutted to go out on loan last year,” he added.

“I had a good loan spell (at Waterford) to be fair. I’ve come back here and we have a very good and experienced goalkeeper in Luke McCormick who is helping me out.

“Day in day out he has been there and done it so he gives me advice and then we have Steve Mildenhall, who is from Swindon. He knows the club inside out and personally that is what I need.

“That is going to help me get to the next level, whether that is with Swindon or with someone else.

“I enjoy being at Swindon, I’ve had my ups and down with the fans when I paid my fine in pennies (after a disciplinary fine in 2015) and all of that.

“I’m happy and I just want to win football matches. If the fans like me they like me and if they don’t they don’t but as long as we are winning games I’m happy.”
