SWINDON Supermarine earned their first Southern League Premier Division South point of the season despite being twice pegged back by Merthyr Town in Wales tonight.

Lee Spalding's promoted side, beaten 1-0 in their league opener at home by Tiverton Town on Saturday, took the lead as Brad Hooper fired home a 10th minute penalty, having himself been fouled.

But it took Merthyr just seven minutes to restored parity as Tom Meechan fired home after a mistake in the visiting defence.

The Wiltshire men were back in front before the interval as Zak Westlake headed home from a Bradley Gray corner and Gray also went close 10 minutes into the second period as he hit a post.

Just after the midway point of the second half though, Dan Williamson was penalised for a push in the penalty area and Ian Taylor levelled again from the penalty spot.

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town's good start to the campaign came to a shuddering halt as they were thrashed 5-1 at Bishops Cleeve, Josh Shama netting for Sam Collier's men.

Shrivenham are still without a win in the top flight after Gareth Davies' men succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Flackwell Heath at Barrington Park.
