DISGUSTED Barry Humphries has spoken of his outrage after finding a nasty surprise in his chicken takeaway.

As he munched on his chicken meal deal from KFC he found what he thought to be a chicken brain, but has now been confirmed by the company as a kidney.

The self-employed block paver, from Drakes Way, was so sickened by his discovery in the KFC meal he bought at the Greenbridge Retail Park last Thursday that he is now considering legal action against the company.

A spokesman for the franchisee that operates KFC in Swindon said: “We always try to ensure the highest standards in all of our stores.

“However, on this very rare occasion, the chicken was not fully trimmed prior to cooking.

“We have contacted our suppliers, who have identified the item as a kidney.

“While there was no health risk, we agree that this is unsightly, and have apologised to Mr Humphries and offered him a full refund.”

Mr Humphries also claims he was forced to miss a few days work after he found the organ in his chicken but was even more annoyed when he claims the staff at the restaurant would only refund the amount he paid for the meal with no more recompense.

He said: “I am absolutely horrified that this could happen.

“It is clearly a chicken brain and no matter what anyone else says I know what I found.

“My stomach turned when I saw what it was – I always eat my chicken in the same way - by eating the skin then picking it off the bone and it fell out.

“I had to take days off work because I was feeling so sick and I have lost money. The company have only offered to give me the cost of the meal back and that is not acceptable.”

Mr Humphries went back to the store and says he was told he could have a refund on the entire order, which amounted £15, but he says that was not enough after the distress it has caused him.

Grow up Mr Humphries. Even if it was a brain, which it clearly isn't, as it's attached to the meat, then so what. It would still be edible.

A big tough builder scared of a bit of an animal. Did your mum cut the crusts off your sandwiches? Do you pull a face if you get served vegetables? I bet you are scared of spiders.

What's wrong with this guy - "I had to take days off work because I was feeling so sick"? Anyone else would feel sick for an hour or so, and then get on with their lives, but taking 'days' off work, seriously?!

If he'd worked for me, and phoned in with that excuse I'd have fired him on the spot! This excuse must be ranked alongside Homer Simpson's excuse "I can't come into work today, my baby beat me up"

This is such an obvious attempt to get some compensation! Shame on the Adver for giving it the front page, or even for printing it at all!

What a load of c--p I worked for KFC both UK and Spain, the cooking routine it's impossible for a brain-rat/mouse etc to end up in KFC product.

The article is about finding some offal or connective tissue in amongst the chicken, sausages are quite another topic. There is a responsibility that H&S is adhered to ensure that food sold is of a standard,that is acceptable. When you eat food that you have bought from any establishment such as a restaurant, then you do expect to eat whats on the menu,what you ordered. You do not expect that and it made my stomache crawl reading it! And yes, it seems a bit OTT to take time of for it from work,unless the guy was ill after consuming it, off course. I know that I eat only the best meat and it has never made me ill.

That you are referring too, is battery caged-hens and that is something I am against. We only eat free-range and hens that have had good rearing and you can argue that it is all cruel to eat hens/meat, but imagine if no one ate hens? Then there would be a population outbreak of them and then what, the chickens would take over?As long as they have been treated right,thats all I am concerend about.

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention all the feathers that chickens produce and what would become of eiderdown pillows and quilts? Chickens are an important part of nature and the food chain and treating them right should be a priority. I genuinly hope that the guy is pursuing this for the right reason because he was ill from it not to make a buck, as can be the culture, these days.

I agree its pretty shocking at the fact he was off of work because of it unless the food actually made him ill? but I also would not of been suprised if it turned out to be a rats brain and that KFC are just covering themselves only because when I went there a few months ago I witnessed several rats roaming out the back of the same resturant and when I told them about it they informed me that they were already aware of this so I refuse to go back there now. It does put you off your food I have to admit.

Also, i'm not surprised by this. i never eat from KFC, Macdonalds or BK simply because the meat is of such low quality so this sort of thing is to be expected. I will only eat fast food from the kebab van over by moredon. Delicious, £5 for a monster donner, the meat tastes like a fillet steak i really dont know how he can make money selling for so low, must buy in bulk or something.

I am not aware of any class system of feather. An Eiederdown product, be it pillow, quilt, coat will cost you a lot more than man made fibre.
The eider ducks down is the soft underfeather found on the breast area, it is superb at retaining heat and an eider duck can live perfectly happily at temeratures as low as -50.
Washing and drying an Eiderdown product is tricky and label instructions must be followed or it is easily ruined.

Eider down comes from the Eider duck,
it has nothing to do with chickens.
I think the general message is that chickens produce more than breast or thigh meat. They produce eggs and yes and as you have pointed out that eider ducks feathers are responsible for eiderdown pillows.
Were you aware that byproducts from chicken feathers can be used to make biodegradable plastics and polymer similar to cellaphane amongst other uses, and that pleliminary tests in the US have proved useful that chicken feather fibres can help soak-up oil spills?
It seems that eider ducks feathers can continue to make the pillows and the chickens have their feathers re-used for scientific purpose. We need chickens for many purposes not just eating.

Its quite ironic really because i love liver and kidneys...imagine my shock and horror the other day when i found a KFC connected to my liver and kidneys. Great, now we all know more about eider duck feathers that they cost you a lot. Dry cleaning would be better than sticking it through the ringer I guess or on second thoughts don't matter, just stick it in the machine at 40 and hope for the best.

You will need special soap flakes for washing available from camping shops. Normal detergent washing powders and liquids such as Daz will ruin the down. It must be washed quickly at 30 c and then tumble dried but not too warm. Best use a launderette tumble drier as its much bigger and will circulate the warm air better through the down. One dried, give it a good shake and hang it over a washing line to air for several hours.

Right so daz it is,stick it on at 100 degrees, boil wash it and then whack it in the tumble drier for an hour, great. I don't like eider down anyway as I am allergic, I prefer man made pillows, not as high maintenance and doesn't give me any trouble.

I too have had a bad experience of the Greenbridge KFC so never eat there now.
I once brought a fillet burger meal only to get it home a find a bite had been taken out of it.
I took it back & said but the manger just laughed (great customer service).
As annoyed as I was about this no time was taken off work!!
With that sort off attitude this story doesn't really come as a supprise.
I do love a KFC though & have no problem using the one in Cricklade Rd.
