BANBURY UNITED have signed Wycombe Wanderers' 19-year-old goalkeeper Dean Thornton on loan for one month. Thornton is a first year professional with the Chairboys.

BARTON ROVERS have appointed senior player Gary Fitzgerald as their new first team manager. He replaces general manager Kevin Thoburn, who stepped down from first team duties after the club's recent 6-1 defeat away at relegation threatened Berkhamsted Town. Fitzgerald was already assisting the team in a coaching capacity. Thoburn will continue to work with the club's youth team.

CIRENCESTER TOWN hope that squad member Oliver Holder will soon make his international debut for the FA's English Colleges' under 18s team. The 17 year old central defender, a product of Cirencester's Academy, is among the 32 boys from whom a 16-strong England squad will be selected to travel to China to play their Chinese counterparts before returning to play schoolboys from Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, and Belgium.

Oliver made the short-list by passing trials at Bath University and Yeading Football Club, to which England selectors invited the Cirencester College pupil after being impressed when watching him play.

The Manchester United supporter then attended a further trial at the Football Association's Lilleshall training complex where selectors were scheduled to choose the England squad. Oliver, who made a promising first team debut for Cirencester against King's Lynn last month, says he is "chuffed" with his recent progress.

CLEVEDON TOWN have signed former Swindon Town captain defender Andrew Gurney. The Bristol-born player, who will be 33 years old next month, was released by Swindon at the beginning of December.

He began his career as a trainee with Bristol Rovers and went on to make 108 appearances for the Pirates, scoring nine goals. Following a move to Torquay United in 1997 he scored 10 goals in 64 appearances for the Gulls. Just over a year later Gurney joined Reading and scored three times in 67 appearances before another move took him to Swindon Town where he made 132 appearances and netted 20 goals. He signed for Swansea City in the 2004/05 season and scored once in 28 appearances before re-joining Swindon for 28 more appearances.

CORBY TOWN have parted company with manager Robert Dunion. Former Corby player Dunion returned to the Rockingham Road Triangle Stadium as manager just over a year ago. He steered the club to promotion last season but, with a side almost identical to last season's medal winners, he has found results in the Premier Division hard to find. The Steelmen are bottom of the table without a home league win and just two away victories so far this season.

Another former Corby player, Dougie Keast, has been plucked from a list of 18 applicants to replace Dunion. Keast enjoyed two successful spells at the Triangle, one in the early 1990s when Elwyn Roberts and Mark Lawrenson were in the team, and again later in his career under the leadership of Lee Adams. Keast also played for Rushden and Diamonds and Kettering Town. More recently Keast has been in management at Loughborough Dynamos and Quorn.

KETTERING TOWN have recalled defender Stephan Morley from his temporary transfer with Corby Town.

HALESOWEN TOWN have signed Thomas Taylor. Taylor spent last season with Grimsby Town having previously played for BAT Sports and Vikings, in Norway.

KING'S LYNN have appointed a new manager to succeed Tommy Taylor. The new man in charge of team affairs is 45-year-old Keith Webb. Webb was Norwich City reserve team manager, a position he had held since 2001. Prior to that he was assistant academy director and full time youth coach with the Canaries.

The Linnets have signed two Norwich City players on temporary transfer.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Andrew Fisk has joined until the end of the season and 18 year old defender Andrew Cave-Brown has signed for one month.

The players are in their first and second years, respectively, as professionals. Gravesend born Cave-Brown is a Scotland Youth International.

LEIGHTON TOWN'S new manager Keith Scott has signed a player registration form to help lift his club's flagging fortunes. Westminster-born Scott began his football career in the Southern League with Leicester United. He subsequently made 252 Football League appearances, scoring 61 goals, for Lincoln City, Wycombe Wanderers, Swindon Town, Stoke City, Norwich City, Bournemouth, Watford, Reading and Colchester United during a professional career spanning 11 years.

MANGOTFIELD UNITED have put 22-year-old midfielder Darren Hawkins on contract.

SUTTON COLDFIELD TOWN have parted company with one of the Royals' leading goal scorers last season. Liam Hebberd, 21, has left the club to join Gresley Rovers. Hebberd has managed only five goals this campaign and has not been able to hold down a place in Sutton's first team in recent weeks.

SWINDON SUPERMARINE are holding a sporting dinner in February when the main guest speaker is Ryder Cup golfer David Howell. Howell will be accompanied by Swindon Town legend Don Rogers, who will fulfil a question and answer slot. As well as playing for Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace, Paulton-born Rogers made over 400 appearances for Swindon Town earning England Youth and under-23 international honours during a 14-year professional career.

TEAM BATH'S match against Rugby Town was eventful, with three referees taking charge during the game. The nominated referee for the game sustained an injury in the 35th minute. The senior assistant referee took over in the middle and the referee's assessor took over the linesman's role. Being unable to rustle up the appropriate kit quickly enough to recommence the game, the assessor ran the line for the remainder of the half in his shirt and tie and his ordinary shoes.

Before the officials came out for the second half the assistant that had taken over in the first half said he could not continue as referee due to a bout of tendonitis so the second assistant took over for the remainder of the game. During the half-time break the assessor managed to borrow some kit and came out fully attired for the second half.

WINCHESTER CITY management committee member and club photographer David Walker died on Christmas Eve. As a former newspaper photographer, Walker covered non-Football League soccer in the Southern League and Isthmian League for many years. He was 50 and had been suffering from cancer. He was remembered at City's match against Newport IOW on Boxing Day with a minute's silence.
