TWO more representatives of Swindon’s Esprit Gymnastics Club will be joining Laura Halford in Glasgow at the Commonwealth Games.
Stephani Sherlock and her coach Deb Hows will be part of the English gymnastics team for the competition in Scotland.
It is Sherlock’s first taste of international competition but she is the current English Rhythmic Champion and a silver medalist in the hoop and ball disciplines.
Hows has been involved with the English and Great Britain rhythmic gymnastics set-up for a while but this is her first Commonwealth Games.
Speaking to the Advertiser Hows said: “For the town it really is pretty amazing. My hopes are they both do the best that they can do, this has been years of training and dedication for them.
“I’m incredibly proud of Stephani and Laura as I’ve worked closely with both of them. It’s a proud moment for me, with both of them (at the Games) as their (club ) coach. It’s what being a coach is all about, coaching your athletes to be the best they can be.”
“I’ve coached the English teams for a few years and been away as a Great Britain coach to the Olympics but this is my first Commonwealths.”
“It’s even more exciting having now collected the kits and tracksuits for the Games.”
Sherlock was delighted to recieve her first call-up she said: “I am already very excited about the Games. This will be my first competition at such a high level, so I am looking forward to this amazing experience, being a part of a strong medal-hope team representing England.”
