SWINDON'S Jazz Carlin has taken Commonwealth gold in the 800m freestyle this evening.
The former Tigershark enjoyed a close battle with Australian Lauren Boyle until the final 100 metres but stormed away to take the title.
Carlin's time of 8:18.14 was enough for a new Commonwealth record.
"I knew it was going to be a tough race because it was a strong field but I'm so happy to come away with the gold," she said.
"Last year at the Worlds I was pipped on the last 50 but this year I've made a real effort to make sure I was stronger than any other swimmer in the pool over the last 50.
"The support has been overwhelming and it's nice to have all my family here to support me."
