ILL-DISCPLINE cost Warminster Town as they slipped to defeat in their first outing of 2016.
The Weymouth Street men, who hadn’t been in action since Boxing Day, slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to in-form Almondsbury UWE, finishing the match with 10 men after DJ Wheeler was sent off for violent conduct.
Warminster were punished for conceding a needless free-kick, from which Daniel Lane nodded Almondsbury in front, before Ebon Mortimer-Taylor snatched an equaliser.
But five minutes before the break, the hosts’ Wheeler was dragged to the floor on the edge of the Almondsbury box and following the ensuing melee, he was shown a straight red card for an attempted headbutt.
Despite the home team’s best efforts with 10 men, the visitors broke and netted the winner through James Archer, with Warminster’s Josh Brigham striking the crossbar again at the death.
