WESTBURY Youth Amazons clinched victory in the final of the Wiltshire U16 Cup.
The Amazons were up against a Royal Wootton Bassett girls team packed with county and STFiC representative players, but emerged victorious 2-1.
Both teams started brightly but did not take their opportunities with strong defences coming out on top until the 40th minute when Bassett to made the breakthrough as a well-delivered cross was headed in off the post by Sophie Roberts.
Having beaten their opponents earlier in the season, Amazons took control of the second half.
A strong run from Shaneez Mwaura resulted in a pinpoint finish low into the bottom corner before, with 10 minutes to go, strong work from the midfield released Jade Whale and the striker, playing out of position in the centre of midfield, took her only opportunity of the game to clinch victory.
Amazons manager Andy Jordan said: “I asked this fantastic bunch of girls to go out and be the best that they could be, to enjoy the game and they would get the result they wanted.
"It just proves that hard work will help you achieve your goals.”
