THE beginning of March was a busy time for Aquila Trampoline Club with gymnasts competing at both national and regional competitions.

Aquila had two representatives at National Gala for grade one and two trampoline gymnasts at Littledown, Bournemouth, Jack Turner and Beth Strange competing in the under 17 age group.

Turner was first to compete and scored 23.0 for his set routine. He followed with an equally impressive vol score of 23.3 + 5.1 tariff, giving him a score of 51.4.

This gave him the retaining score for next year's grade two competition and once again the qualifying mark for this year's grade two national finals.

With a score of 28.3 in the final round he finished fifth on the day.

Next up was Strange, who completed a confident routine to achieve a set score of 21.7, backed up with a vol score of 22.5 + 5.2 tariff.

This gave her an overall score of 49.4 for the day and a final position on the day of 20th.

The second regional 345 competition of 2008 was again held at Wellsprings LC in Taunton and 14 gymnasts from the club attended.

The grade five category competed first and Aquila had three entrants across all the age groups.

Iona Gillies took the bronze medal in the under 13 girls. She scored an excellent 22.9 for her set routine and followed this with another good routine for her vol, scoring 21.5 + 1.5 tariff giving her an overall score of 45.9 and the bronze medal.

Also competing at grade five were under 11 girls Rebecca Green in 14th place with a score of 44.0, and Marie Gillies in 26th with a score of 42.7.

In the grade four category, pride of place went to Jenny Mumford in the over 17 girls.

She scored 23.0 for her set routine and backed this up with 22.6 + 2.5 tariff giving her a score of 48.1 and a place in the final, where she took the silver medal.

Also in the over 17 girls were Jenny Hewitt who finished in 13th place with a score of 43.9 and Leigh Stone (14th) with a score of 43.8.

The three girls were entered as a team and they took the team gold.

Also competing at grade four were Ryan Coones (under 13 boys) 5th and Taylor Fee 6th, Rachel loveless (under 17) 6th, Robyn Turner (under 13) 11th, Ellie Coones (under 11) 23rd and Charleigh Hobbs 24th.

In the the grade three category, Laura Kemp in the under 17 girls went into the day's final in pole position. Her final round score of 22.2 + 4.2 tariff was enough to take gold.

In the under 15 boys Adam Wooster also reached the final with a combined set and vol score of 48.5.

A final round score of 25.3 gave him a score of 73.8 and fifth place.
