Bitton 2 Calne Town 1

Robbie Lardner could not hide his disappointment as he free scoring Calne Town side hit the buffers on Monday.

Fresh from their 4-1 thrashing of Willand Rovers on Saturday the Lilywhites, who have scored 11 goals in their first five games, went down 2-1 at Bitton on the Bank Holiday.

And Lardner was upset with the result as he believed his side were worthy of at least a point.

"When you don't get what you deserve it never lies very well," said Lardner, who takes his side to Andover in the FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday.

"We didn't play particularly well in the first half and they scored a couple of headed goals which was disappointing.

"We hit the post, Gary Banks missed an open goal from about a foot and Glenn Armstrong had a great chance, so even though we didn't play well we had three great chances."

But Lardner was pleased with his side's response after the break as an own goal hauled them back into the game.

"We camped ourselves in their half got the goal and Ben Fitch had a great chance but it was a frustrating afternoon."

Lardner's disappointment was compounded because the Lilywhites couldn't build on their impressive 4-1 win over Willand at Bremhill View.

An own goal set them on their way before Dan Lardner added a second to make it 2-1 at half time.

Armstrong netted a penalty after Fitch was brought down and then James Lye completed the rout. "We were exceptional and we finished them off with some clinical finishing in the second half," said Lardner.

"Willand are not going to be far away from the top so we were very pleased, it was just a shame we couldn't get something from Monday."

The boss now has his sights set on Saturday's cup trip to Andover and progression.

"With out record in the cups just to win a game is nice," he joked.

"They are a good side but we are looking to continue in the cup."
