DEVIZES Town’s Jekyll and Hyde season was summed up over the weekend according to manager Darran Walters as his side endured the highs and the lows.

Walters’ side fell to a 2-0 defeat at struggling local rivals Corsham Town, who had Aaron Masson and Alessandro Zarrelli on target, on Good Friday, before beating Keynsham Town by the same scoreline on Easter Monday.

Devizes’ opener against Keynsham came from a second-half free-kick as Jake Roberts headed the ball back across the goal for Tom Slater to head in from close range.

Substitute Robbie Mitchell entered the fray to notch the second for the hosts to wrap up a comfortable win.

“It sums us up, to be honest,” said Walters. “We had a really poor performance on Friday against a team that are struggling third from bottom and then we played a team that have been in the top four or five all season and we put a performance in like that and thoroughly deserved the win.

“On our day, we can beat anyone in the league. On a bad day, we can lose to anyone.

“It’s getting that level of consistency to our game that is going to progress us on from where we are.”

Walters was left frustrated by Friday’s performance but is looking to end the season on a positive note following Monday’s win.

“It was just a real lacklustre performance,” he added.

“We conceded a disappointing goal and we’ve given away a penalty, so we have defended poorly.

“We never looked like scoring but on Monday, we looked a totally different side.

“If I had the answer, we’d be top of the league or I’d be managing somewhere else.

“We had two games left before Monday and we wanted to try and get six points out of the two games to finish as high as we can and we’ve done the first part and hopefully we can finish on a high.”

Meanwhile, Corsham were unable to follow-up their Good Friday result as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Wincanton on Monday.

However, Nigel Tripp’s side are now five points clear of second-from-bottom Calne Town, who lost 2-0 to Chippenham Park last Thursday before going down 3-0 at Ashton & Backwell United on Monday.

Park made it a four-point weekend as they held third-placed Cheddar to a 1-1 draw on Monday, while Malmesbury Victoria followed up a 5-1 demolition of Oldland Abbotonians with a capitulation of their own as they were humbled 4-0 at home to Bishop Sutton.

Pewsey Vale remain rooted to the foot of the Sydenhams League Division One following a 6-1 defeat away to New Milton Town on Saturday.
