New Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas could be handed a huge transfer war chest after Sir Martyn Arbib was confirmed as one of their new directors today.
The businessman, a member of Andrew Fitton's consortium which officially took over at Town this afternoon, was 208th in the 2007 Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated fortune of £370 million.
The 68-year-old was knighted in 2003 and made his fortune after setting up Perpetual plc in 1973, based in Henley, Oxfordshire, before selling it to AMVESCAP in 2001 for more than £1 billion.
In his spare time, he is interested in horse racing and his horse Snurge won the St Leger Stakes 1990.
As well as Henley, he also has a home in Barbados.
It is unclear exactly what role Arbib will take in the new regime, with a press conference called at the club for Tuesday morning for the new owners to outline their plans.
Scot Malpas will also be officially unveiled as the Robins' new manager.
