WILTSHIRE stay unbeaten in the British Darts Organisation inter-county championship but were held to a draw for the second successive game, writes DAVE EATON.

After a comprehensive win on the Isle of Wight in their opening Division Four match of the 2008/09 campaign, they were held to a draw at home by Avon (West of England).

In their latest match in Telford, Wiltshire had to settle for an 18-18 draw against Shropshire and are only placed fourth in the division four league table, 13 points adrift of early leaders Avon.

Wiltshire women were in fine form again against Shropshire and pulled in eight points as they took the A match 5-1 and drew the B game 3-3. But unfortunately the men were only able to secure 10 of the 24 points available to them.

On the first day after the women drew 3-3, the men’s B side were always playing catch-up.

They got back to 6-4 down but lost the last two games to leave Wiltshire trailing 11-7 overnight.

The next day the Wiltshire A women produced a brilliant performance to win 5-1 and bring the overall scoreline to 12-12.

Wins for Wiltshire men’s A team players Ian Greenaway, Chris Bailey, Juan Hopkins and brilliant teenage prospect Tony Clark, with a 29.15 average, in the opening five games gave the Moonrakers a healthy 16-13 advantage and hope of a win.

But Wiltshire’s hopes of overall victory evaporated completely as they lost the next five games.

It was left to Richie Jones and Ron Ashton to win the last two men’s A matches and salvage a point and an overall 18-18 draw.

Wiltshire’s last BDO inter-county division four game of 2008 will be played at the Moonrakers on the weekend of November 29 and 30 when they entertain Cleveland.
