AN extraordinary last-wicket partnership of 94 between Adrian Stenner and Anthony Pettifer helped Lechlade to a one-wicket win over Great Bedwyn, putting the WEPL Wiltshire Division title race in their own hands.
Chasing 172 for a crucial victory away from home, Lechlade stumbled to 79-9 and almost certain defeat before the last-wicket pair put on a remarkable final stand.
Pettifer contributed just eight as Stenner, resilient and obstinate, thrashed his way to an unbeaten 83 and perhaps the most important innings of Lechlade’s season.
The Manor Ground side now top the table with one game remaining of a rollercoaster campaign, and captain Paul Godding could not quite believe what he had seen post-match.
He said: “It was just unbelievable. Stenner and Pettifer really got us out of a situation today. “We now go into the last Saturday top of the table with everything to play for.”
