ANTHONY Nash took the spoils at Ashton Keynes' first match of the season in the Tench Cup at Cokes Pit.

Nash drew a fancied swim to bank seven tench for the win, tipping the scales at 23lb.

Rob Payne had five tench for runners-up spot of 21lb 8oz and third, with four, was Alan Smith for 17lb 11oz. Tom Need had just three for 14lb 8oz and finally Mick Chilley netted a bag worth 9lb 12oz.

Isis Angling Club were down the River Avon at Sutton Benger for their first match of the season and it was to be held above their top weir and in near perfect conditions.

Steve Bull caught three bream to 6-10-0 for 14-8-0 on the feeder to win the Merlin Cup. Peter Gilbert had 10 chub on the waggler for 7-15-0 for runners-up spot and Bob Garrett was third with 7-4-0. Richard Hupko had a 6-0-0 tench for fourth.

Back on the commercial scene South Cerney's match mecca, Ridgeway fishery is in awesome form.

The five-hour match record of 204lb still stands but for how long?

Only one angler weighed less than 100lb and his 86lb would have been good enough for a match win on most local venues as a total of 10 anglers recorded over a ton.

On his first visit to the venue Andy Kent took the white section with a cracking 135lb off peg 16.

Derek Hammond won the blue section off peg one with 140lb to continue his recent form. Dave Hawkins netted 113-8 to take third spot while match organiser Goochy got lucky again and managed 162-4-0 fishing hair rigged pop-up paste and also waggler up in the water for second.

The winner on the day was Bath's Simon Stacy (181-6) on only his second visit to the venue.
